I was born into a family which valued music, art, history and textiles. At an early age of 18 I would delve into my mother’s wardrobe, combining dupattas with trousers, and getting them tailored into contemporary outfits.

I decided to get a formal degree in design from Nift Kolkata and soon after started making clothes for friends and family. 

Ekta also studied fashion and together we launched our label Ekru in the year 2000.Our first exhibition was a complete sell out and after that we explored different cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Chennai and Ranchi. Each show was well received and soon we opened our boutique on the ground floor of our home in 2002.

In the year 2005 we debuted at the Lakme Fashion Week and were applauded by Karan Johar, Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar. 

The collection was made from handloom ahimsa silk and organic Cotton voiles.

Esteemed actress Tabu ordered a range of styles from the collection.

Since then Ekru has been part of several fashion weeks. 

Born out of passion to create luxury prêt and statement Indian pieces, Ekru became a pillar of Kolkata fashion circuit, after decades spent dressing the city’s elite. Ekru first rose to prominence for their sartorial choices and intricate embroideries, lauded in prominent magazines and press and best-dressed lists.

It firmly ensconced in Kolkata and continues to be a part of the National Fashion Circuit, showcasing ensembles in Indian Fashion Weeks.In 2014, we opened their flagship store in an early 20^th century Building, painstakingly restoring a part of Kolkata’s heritage, blending Ekru’s artistic sagacity with the city’s own.
